Birthday Holiday Turns Into Tragedy

A young British boy lost his big toe after he got his foot stuck in an escalator while he was wearing a pair of Crocs on holiday in Dubai.

Five-year-old Stanley Wood from Chislehurst, south east of London, was travelling down the escalator when his foot got stuck in the side on February 14.

He was taken to hospital where doctors tried to save a portion of his toe, Gulf News reported.

Stanley, who was in Dubai with his parents Helen and Ben, and his seven-year-old sister, lost part of his big toe and his entire plantar ligament which connects the big toe with the calf.

Medical Response and Surgery

Plastic surgeon, Dr Mohan Rangaswamy, said the toe was so mangled it could not be reattached.

He added that it was a “trauma situation” and that Stanley would require more surgery to make him more stable.

Stanley, who was in Dubai to celebrate his fifth birthday, has had to remain in the country with his mum while the rest of the family flew home.
